Vase

I made this small vase on the wheel with porcelain clay. I added the cutout design before it dried.

Tiki Mask

I made this tiki mask using a mold. I added the edges and the design on the extra clay on the edges.

Cassius Bowl #2

I made this cassius bowl on the wheel. It is about 8 inches wide. I painted it with black glaze and put drops of blue glaze on the edges to create a dripping effect.

Cassius Bowl

I made this cassius bowl on the wheel. It is about 8 inches wide. I painted the outside with a speckled glaze and the inside with a translucent baby pink glaze.

Sandstone Bowl #2

This was my second sandstone bowl, also made on the wheel. I painted it with regular glaze and designed it with white flowers.

I made this bowl on the wheel using sandstone clay. It is about 8 inches wide. It was painted with regular glaze.

Artist Statement

My work as an artist has many aspects that make it unique to me and it represents me. In creating my pieces, I am trying to express myself and show my artistic side. When I am making my pieces, I am usually relaxed and in a state of mind where I can freely capture my mood or my feelings into my work. I try to make all my pieces different and creative. I take inspiration from pictures of other artists' work, such as Peter Voulkos. I am also influenced by modern art and abstract art. I like the simplicity I find in these artists and their pieces. To capture that element of simplicity, I favor low buff clay and paint my pieces solid colors.

My current work shows all my progress since my first pieces. The progression of my work from first year until now also becomes clear. All of these pieces, from the start up to now fit together in that they are all simple and practical pieces, usually with a special touch that makes them unique. This represents me, because I am very simple, and I like small details. In my work, this theme becomes apparent.

Through the last 4 years of making art, I feel that the progression shows in my movement away from basic and simple mediums and includes multiple mediums per project. I also started incorporating more aspects of what I see around me into my work, which I feel becomes more and more apparent as I look at my work from start to finish.
