Paper Sculpture

I made a piece depicting a can of spilled paint that has become water with boats in it. I made it entirely out of card stock and cardboard, with the exception of the can and the brush.

This drum is inspired by an African drum. I made the base on the wheel with porcelain clay and the top piece is made out of a fabric wrapped around a piece of cardboard. I wrapped the whole thing with a black cord.

Balsa Wood Bridge

I made this bridge out of balsa wood. I meticulously measured each piece precisely and glued them together. I painted it with black acrylic paint.

Teapot

I made this teapot out of low buff clay. It was made entirely on the wheel, with the exception of the lid.

abstract basket/cup

This piece is made out of porcelain clay with an add-on, which is wire and wicker wood.

5 Piece Dinner Set

This is my 5 piece set, made entirely out of low buff clay. I made a dinner plate, a salad plate, an espresso cup and saucer, a soup bowl, and a mug. I painted them an off white/light yellow color and outlined the rims of all the pieces with grey.

Artist Statement

My work as an artist has many aspects that make it unique to me and it represents me. In creating my pieces, I am trying to express myself and show my artistic side. When I am making my pieces, I am usually relaxed and in a state of mind where I can freely capture my mood or my feelings into my work. I try to make all my pieces different and creative. I take inspiration from pictures of other artists' work, such as Peter Voulkos. I am also influenced by modern art and abstract art. I like the simplicity I find in these artists and their pieces. To capture that element of simplicity, I favor low buff clay and paint my pieces solid colors.

My current work shows all my progress since my first pieces. The progression of my work from first year until now also becomes clear. All of these pieces, from the start up to now fit together in that they are all simple and practical pieces, usually with a special touch that makes them unique. This represents me, because I am very simple, and I like small details. In my work, this theme becomes apparent.

Through the last 4 years of making art, I feel that the progression shows in my movement away from basic and simple mediums and includes multiple mediums per project. I also started incorporating more aspects of what I see around me into my work, which I feel becomes more and more apparent as I look at my work from start to finish.
